Carly Fiorina Lays Herself Off, Abandons Campaign Of Lies
Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina had her brief moment in the sun after she received a bounce in the polls as a result of a plethora of lies she told during the second Republican debate. It’s been straight downhill ever since, and today she issued a statement – one day after a horribly poor showing in the New Hampshire primary – that she will be suspending her campaign.
Consider what Fiorina stood for and the way she tried to help Americans. She outright lied about Planned Parenthood during that infamous September 2015 debate, saying “I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.”
As we know, the undercover videos to which she was referring were discredited as frauds, and the activists behind the doctored videos have been indicted by a Texas grand jury on felony charges. Yet she has never apologized. In fact, she doubled down on the fallacious claims even after being presented with evidence that proved her false, and that proved to be her undoing. Judd Legum of ThinkProgress tweeted: “Carly Firoina’s campaign is dead and Planned Parenthood is alive.” This is the same Fiorina, let us not forget, who last month hijacked a field trip attended by preschool children and turned it into an anti-abortion rally. She even refused to back down from her anti-abortion extremism after a deranged man shot up a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, killing three.
Carly Fiorina was the Republican’s answer to Hillary Clinton, giving them free rein to attack Clinton without the accusations of misogyny that plague the other candidates. Last month during a Republican debate, a desperate Fiorina – again being relegated to the undercard – continuously and viciously made outrageous sexist comments about Clinton, saying: “Unlike another woman in this race, I actually love spending time with my husband.” Of course, this is the same Fiorina who forgot that in September she said of Clinton: “I feel empathy with every woman who is working really hard and giving it all they’ve got — and Hillary is, She’s smart, she’s hardworking, she’s giving it all she’s got.”
A liar and a hypocrite, we will thankfully no longer have to endure Carly Fiorina. An embodiment of the status quo and the one percent, her even her one selling point – her career as the CEO of computer giant Hewlett-Packard – only detracted from what little credibility she had. As CNN noted, “it’s hard to run for president when your name is synonymous with massive layoffs,” referring to the 38,000 that were laid off during her tenure. While Californians lost their jobs, Fiorina tripled her salary and bought a million-dollar yacht. She is a woman who claims to support women, who commenting on abortion rights, said: “she would overturn Roe v Wade.” Of the Paycheck Fairness act (the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act) — she said, “these are tokens. They’re gestures. They don’t truly help women advance.” So in return we say; goodbye, and good riddance.
