Cheney: Let's Go To War With ISIS Because They Have Weapons Of Mass Destruction

Usually appearing in the right-wing echo chamber of Fox News, former Vice President Dick Cheney recently appeared on CNN (or low carb Fox News) in  an interview with Jamie Gangel. Cheney, either unwilling or incapable of acknowledging that he was the one who helped orchestrate the disaster in Iraq, has repeatedly taken cheap shots at President Obama’s foreign policy. In fact, he once had the unmitigated audacity to call President Obama the worst president in modern history.

Well, the war criminal is once again blasting President Obama, claiming he’s directly responsible for the rise of ISIS. It truly boggles the mind, how a man who cynically lied our way into a war for his own financial gain, is still considered an “expert” on matters pertaining to the Middle East. In one of the most disingenuous acts of fear-mongering, Cheney claimed that an attack on America by ISIS is likely due to President Obama’s “failures” in Iraq.

CHENEY: I think we could see another 9/11-style attack with much deadlier weapons. I worry if they use chemicals or biological agents or nuclear weapons. Remember, the weapon they used on 9/11, airline tickets and box cutters. That was a difficult, terrible day for us, 3,000 casualties. It will be a lot worse if they find deadlier weapons. (Haaretz.com)

Wait, did we just hear Dick Cheney mention weapons of mass destruction in a sentence? Trillions of dollars wasted, thousands of American lives taken, and dangerous terrorist groups like ISIS found a new home and we have absolutely nothing to show for it.  We cannot allow this man to rewrite the narrative. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) brilliantly reminded us last year that it was in fact the Bush administration that allowed ISIS to come to power.

“It is very easy to criticize the president,” Sanders replied. “But this is an enormously complicated issue. We are here today because of the disastrous blunder of the Bush-Cheney era, which got us into this war in Iraq in the first place, which then developed the can of worms that we’re trying to deal with right now.” (Raw Story)

Also let us not forget that it was the Bush Admin. who supported de-Baathification; that is, the process of politically cleansing Iraqi civil society, dissolving the military, then walking away as if everything would be fine. In fact, ISIS’s land grab across the Middle East is being committed by many of Saddam’s former generals.

Via the DailyMail:

Militants fighting for the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq are being led by a highly secretive group of strategists and officials that were once senior figures in Saddam Hussein’s army.

It was also President Bush who laid the foundation for American troops to be withdrawn from Iraq with the creation of the U.S.–Iraq Status of Forces Agreement.

Now of course, ISIS should be wiped off the map and the homeland protected, but Dick Cheney is the last person on Earth to be lecturing anyone on national security and US foreign policy in the Middle East.
