Marco Rubio: Deadly Snowstorm Is Awesome Because It Delays Obama’s Agenda

In remarks at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire yesterday Republican presidential hopeful and notorious hypocrite Marco Rubio attempted to show some personality – never a good idea for the bland robots the Republicans churn out – by making light of the deadly snowstorm that pummeled the Northeast over the weekend. “In Washington right now they are being buried in this snow blizzard, which means that federal agencies were not able to work all day at issuing new regulations,” he said, adding “Apparently Barack Obama’s executive order pen has frozen. Come to think of it, that’s probably one of the best things to happen to the republic in a while.”

The remark, however lighthearted, was tremendously insensitive given the massive toll of devastation left in the storm’s wake. At least 27 Americans died as a result of the storm – more than have been killed by the Islamic State – and the toll on the economy is sure to be well over a billion dollars. As even Republican colleague Chris Christie noted, the remark was indicative of Rubio’s tremendous “immaturity.” It also showed the enormous hypocrisy and xenophobically selective outrage of the Republicans. While the imagined threat of Islamic terrorism leads to tremendous outrage, fear-mongering, and hypothetical war crimes from the Republicans, the very real weather-related deaths of dozens of Americans and the climate change that contributes to thousands more are laughingly dismissed.

Not only did Rubio repeat the demonstrably false slander that Obama has made excessive use of executive orders, he also reduced governing the country to “issuing new regulations.” Moreover, Rubio’s comments demonstrated the nihilistic obstructionism that forms the heart of the Republicans’ twisted ideology. To Rubio and his ilk, anything Obama or democrats do is inherently bad – no matter how objectively beneficial – and government itself is inherently suspect. Besides the tremendous and deliberate hypocrisy of such Republican opposition to Obama, one has to wonder why such people even want to serve in a government they seem to loathe merely for existing.
