Marco Rubio to Immigrants: I Will Only Support Reform If You Work Without Healthcare

Once again proving that any of his or the GOP’s efforts to reach out to immigrants and Hispanics are nothing more than shameless pandering, Tea Party “darling” and Senator Marco Rubio announced Monday that he will be bailing on immigration reform unless the final bill will force the millions of potential guest workers to risk living without adequate and affordable health care for several years while applying for full citizenship.

Today, in a taped video response (below) to a constituent’s letter expressing concern about the “unintended consequences of a larger immigration reform bill”, Rubio cynically gave himself an easy way out of going through with his commitment to comprehensive immigration reform by holding the health of millions of immigrant workers hostage, boldly explaining that unless immigrant workers risk their lives by working here without the benefits of  “Obamacare”, he will have no choice but to drop his support for reform.

The immigration bill cleared the committee on a 13-5 vote and is expected to reach the Senate floor later this month.

After predictably making the false case that “Obamacare” would encourage employers to cut hiring, he began his attack on his the very same Hispanics and immigrants he claims to represent.

After reminding America that these immigrants who came here simply to earn a better life and a chance at the American Dream, are big, bad,  law-violation criminals, he proceeded to deride the life-saving benefits of  “Obamacare” as “government subsidies”.

Then, Marco Rubio shamelessly pandered to the selfish interests of conservative Republicans, going on to remind them that caring for the health of human beings costs money. Making the brilliant claim that allowing immigrant workers to receive the benefits of “Obamacare” would “raise” American healthcare costs, Marco Rubio cynically ignored the fact that once these guest workers actually become American citizens, they will be many times more costly to the American taxpayer if they have been living and working in the United States for over a decade without adequate healthcare and preventive screenings.

Putting the icing on his bigoted cake, Marco Rubio displayed his nastiest stripes by championing the fact that naturalized immigrants would now pay taxes into federal coffers as the main reason why conservatives should support immigration reform. Not only does this ignore the reality that undocumented  immigrants already pay several different taxes, the fact that Rubio cares more about whether or not his immigrant brothers and sisters pay taxes rather than whether they have adequate affordable healthcare shows the ugly side of his selfish conservative ideology.

Perhaps the worst part about this whole affair is that Marco Rubio presented the video response as a staunch defense of the rights and interests of his immigrant brothers and sisters, while that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Tricking immigrants into believing that one is helping them while throwing them under the bus is what we have come to expect from most republican politicians, but the fact that Rubio is preparing to jump the immigration reform ship unless Democrats agree to force already poor immigrant workers to foot the entire bill for their own healthcare in such an expensive private market should be the last straw for Hispanic voters.

Please do not let yourself nor anybody that you know be fooled by this fast-talking fraud. While he purports to have the best interests of his people in mind, he is really looking out for the best interests of the multinational corporations that will hire cheap labor without having to contribute to their healthcare and well-being.

Please do your part in exposing his hypocrisy and shameless ruse by sharing this and other related articles on social media forums.
