Media Blackout As Bernie Sanders Packs Los Angeles Stadium Past Capacity (VIDEOS/IMAGES/UPDATES)
While the mainstream media attempts to convince the American people that the Democratic primary is over, the political movement that Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has created continues to roll on. A rally at the StubHub Tennis Center in Los Angeles, California, with a capacity of 8,000 people, is already spilling into the overflow area outside the stadium.
Senator Sanders has his finger on the pulse of the American people. After decades of perpetuating a neoliberal status quo that saw the capital amassed by the middle class during the postwar boom funneled up to the top 1% of Americans, the people are declaring that enough is enough. While President Obama has done an incredible job of guiding the ship out of the swamps upon which we found ourselves stuck in following the disastrous George W. Bush presidency, it’s far past time we had a serious discussion on the path that our nation will take moving forward.
Economic inequality is the worst that it’s ever been. The average American couldn’t come up with $400 in an emergency if they had to. Our young people are burdened with over $1.2 trillion in student loan debt. Fifteen years of war across the world have accomplished nothing in the fight against terrorism but continues to be a colossal drain on our budget. It’s far past time we stopped simply conducting business-as-usual and began working for a brighter future.
