Traitor Cotton To Obama: You're Not My President, I Take Orders From Netanyahu
On Monday, Republican Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss their shared interests — namely, a joint effort to ensure that Iran remains on a path to developing nuclear weaponry as swiftly as possible. Cotton, who penned a letter signed by 46 Republican Senators that promised to do everything possible to destroy any nuclear deal the United States and its allies might reach with Iran, says that he and the Prime Minister met to further discuss sabotaging the peace deal.
“Today’s meeting only reaffirms my opposition to this deal,” Cotton said. “I will stand with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Israel and work with my colleagues in Congress to stop this deal and to ensure that Israel has the means to defend itself against Iran and its terrorist surrogates.” Cotton and his depressingly stupid allies believe — no matter how many times they are shown otherwise — that the deal with Iran will not only allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, but to develop it faster. This is false.
“There is no one better to discuss the impact of a nuclear Iran, both in the Middle East and in the world,” Cotton said in a statement, completely ignoring that Netanyahu has been “crying wolf” about Iran for decades. In fact, in 1992, Bibi said Iran was 3-5 years from developing a nuclear weapon. In 1995, he predicted that Iran was “five to seven years at most” from assembling a nuclear weapon. By 1995, he said Iran was “getting extremely close,” and by 2009, Netanyahu warned that Iran was a mere 1-2 years from nuclear capability. Of course, none of Netanyahu’s predictions panned out.
Nevertheless, the Prime Minister continues to kick and scream about Iran, which has never been the threat he says it is. To the GOP — especially Cotton — this presents a convenient excuse to engage in their favorite sport: killing brown people.
On Tuesday, Cotton told MSNBC that Iran “will continue their regional aggression,” and that “in the long term, they are going to continue their push for nuclear weapons.”
Earlier this year, Cotton and 46 other traitors sent a letter to Iran promising to scuttle the Iran deal by any means necessary, even going to far as to inform Iranian leaders that the word of the United States is worthless.
“It has come to our attention while observing your nuclear negotiations with our government that you may not fully understand our constitutional system,” the letter reads in part. The Senators vowed that once President Obama is out of office, they will renege on the deal:
“What these two constitutional provisions mean is that we will consider any agreement regarding your nuclear-weapons program that is not approved by the Congress as nothing more than an executive agreement between President Obama and Ayatollah Khamenei. The next president could revoke such an executive agreement with the stroke of a pen and future Congresses could modify the terms of the agreement at any time.”
This missive provided quite a bit of embarrassment for the United States when Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif schooled the Republican lawmakers on both international law AND United States law.
“I should bring one important point to the attention of the authors and that is, the world is not the United States, and the conduct of inter-state relations is governed by international law, and not by US domestic law,” Zarif responded at the time. “The authors may not fully understand that in international law, governments represent the entirety of their respective states, are responsible for the conduct of foreign affairs, are required to fulfil the obligations they undertake with other states and may not invoke their internal law as justification for failure to perform their international obligations.”
This, of course, was a clear violation of the Logan Act, which reads:
“Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.”
But Cotton, absent of any punishment for his actions, has doubled down, not only conspiring with other lawmakers to sabotage an international peace deal — but now with a foreign power. We have a word for working in collusion with a foreign power to damage the operation of our government — treason.
