Top Florida Newspaper To Lazy Rubio: 'Either Do Your Job Or Resign!"

Marco Rubio has not been having a good week. He recently admitted to the Washington Post that he has missed 77 out of 263 roll call votes because “hates the Senate” and would rather be President instead. “A lot of these votes are not meaningful, they’re not going to pass and even if they did, the president would veto it” whined Rubio to CNN on Sunday.

The editorial board of one of Florida’s biggest newspapers took issue with his complaints, publishing a scathing op-ed where they demanded that he either do his job or quit:

Sorry, senator, but Floridians sent you to Washington to do a job. We’ve got serious problems with clogged highways, eroding beaches, flat Social Security checks and people who want to shut down the government.

If you hate your job, senator, follow the honorable lead of House Speaker John Boehner and resign it.

Let us elect someone who wants to be there and earn an honest dollar for an honest day’s work. Don’t leave us without one of our two representatives in the Senate for the next 15 months or so.

You are paid $174,000 per year to represent us, to fight for us, to solve our problems. Plus you take a $10,000 federal subsidy — declined by some in the Senate — to participate in one of the Obamacare health plans, though you are a big critic of Obamacare.

You are ripping us off, senator.

And you want us to take you seriously as a presidential candidate?

Two weeks ago, you took to the Senate floor to excoriate federal workers at the Department of Veterans Affairs for failing to do their jobs. You said, “there is really no other job in the country where if you don’t do your job, you don’t get fired.”

With the exception of your job, right?

Look, a lot us are frustrated by our jobs and office politics. But we still show up for work every day to earn a paycheck.

Your job is to represent Floridians in the Senate.

Either do your job, Sen. Rubio, or resign it.

Rubio’s hypocrisy knows no bounds, and his behavior is absolutely pathetic. What kind of a leader berates federal workers for failing to do their jobs when he himself is guilty of missing 176 of 1,434 roll call votes (12.3%) and has only passed one law throughout his tremendously unspectacular career? His disregard for the people who elected him and his inefficiency as a Senator would indicate that he doesn’t truly understand what his current job entails; how could anybody trust him with the presidency?

More importantly, it shows just how weak of a candidate he really is. As the Jeb Bush campaign drowns in its own mediocrity, Rubio has been presented with a window to exploit Jeb’s weakness and seize the favor of establishment Republicans. Instead, he’s decided to shove his foot squarely into his mouth once again. He’s already abandoned all the principles he once had in a desperate attempt to keep up with the juggernaut that is Donald Trump; now Rubio has chosen to tarnish the only qualification he had going for him.
